A reverse web proxy takes requests from website visitors and relays them to the protected spam website, returning any data it receives from the protected site back to the visitor. To the visitor, the proxy itself appears to be the spam website, and there is no good way to tell that it is actually only a proxy. A spammer can set up reverse web proxies on many hosts and then use name servers under his control to frequenty change which of these proxies will be pointed to by an authoritative DNS lookup for the site. Haven spam: spam from a "safe haven" -- a site which permits spammers to maintain web sites. For example, a spammer might set up a web site at netcom and then spam ads for it from throw-away accounts on other providers. Blocklist: A database of ip addresses or web urls suspected of being involved in spam or other abuse; generally a blocklist is not used by end-users, but is instead queried by mail hosts in order to reject or mark probable spam messages upon delivery. Redirection describes any of a number of techniques used by spammers to hide their real websites behind disposable sites. Page-Jacking is the where an innocent third party's web page is copied to the page-jacker's web site almost exactly as it appears, but modified so that it links or redirects to the page-jacker's other web sites. Open proxies (a third-party computer that has been configured to serve spammers by untraceably relaying their mail, hosting or guarding their websites, or performing other tasks, often known as "bots" or "zombies") are usually individual home or business pcs (typically running some version of microsoft windows) that have not been properly secured against malware attack, and that are connected to the internet full-time via some sort of broadband connection (so they're always available to the spammer).
