Block Spam

  • Outlook comes with a pre-defined spam filter which combats spam, though you can customize the degree to which you want it to block spam emails.
  • There are many spam blocker softwares, you can search right here on this site, or on google.
  • Blocklist operators are often accused of being "vigilantes" or "censors" although it is the action of the blocklist user, rather than the blocklist operator, that results in denial of service to blocklisted ips.
  • Greylist: Senders who are not block-listed (excluded) or allow listed (accepted) can be placed on a greylist.
  • Can be blocked by normal popup blockers.
  • Dnsbls (dns block lists) should not be used by large isps as a sole method of guaging spam.
  • So, if the mail provider has set up blocklisting or other facilities to reject spam deliveries, then it is spared the necessity of filtering most such mail for its users.
  • Blocklists are somewhat controversial.
  • Despite the fairly rigorous procedures that most blocklist operators follow for naming addresses or blocks of addresses to their lists, innocent providers addresses are sometimes added.
  • This differs from a block list in that it actively boycotts tcp/ip addresses known to send spam or host spammers.
  • Challenge Response - a method of blocking spam which requires the sender of the email to manually respond to a verification message sent to them.
