Spam continues to grow as senders find motivation to increase their efforts. The number of spam messages passed between individuals and businesses continues to increase significantly each day, to the point that some are literally overwhelmed by their sheer volume. The relay feature is a part of all smtp-based servers and it has legitimate uses, but spammers have learned how to locate unprotected servers and hijack them to send spam. In the absence of any strong regulatory programs by the government, internet users are left trying to find the best filtering software they can to try to stop the spam before it reaches their inboxes. Spam wasn't a problem in the early days of the web, we allowed it to become a problem by accepting the problem. In the case of spam, the emails from-addresses are almost always false, and may belong to innocent third parties who suddenly find themselves receiving dozens (or more) of mysterious responses to messages they never sent. Alternatively, the mail host can mark the message as spam so that the recipient can take action on his own. 1618 were once very popular in spams, although those who used them were almost never in compliance with even the minimal requirements of the bill. Email programs don't usually display the received: lines but the received: lines can be very helpful in tracing the spam origin. It is designed to be the e-mail address of the person who sent the message but is often faked by spammers.
